is available without a fee. It probably doesn\'t
qualify as Open Source as defined by Bruce Perens
but might still be of interest to readers.

It\'s not \"Lord of the Rings\" but this is certainly a fellowship. Ximian, Inc., Wipro, and Sun Microsystems Monday say they will jointly develop an open source desktop environment for the Solaris Operating Environment (OE) based on the upcoming GNOME 2.0.

Sun is making the binary (runtime) version of its Solaris 8 Operating Environment available to everyone who accepts the terms of the Solaris 8 Binary Code License (BCL) and the Free Solaris Binary License Program. There are no fees for the right to use the software on computers with a capacity of eight or fewer processors; you only pay $75 (U.S.) plus shipping for the media kit, which contains the software.
