Sure there are cost and maintenance savings in opting for Linux on the desktop over Windows, but administrators still have to contend with some setbacks. Application availability, or compatibility, is an issue as is training and potential downtime that accompanies a migration.

Open-source application servers as an alternative to WebSphere and WebLogic, for example, are gaining momentum. Aside from cost savings, porting applications from one server to another is virtually effortless, according to JBoss Group LLC founder Marc Fleury.

“CZ Linux”. My main aim is to produce a support forum that will be useful for the Linux Newbie right the way up to the more experienced Linux user, but more than this I am hoping it will become a community of like minded people that share a common interest in Linux. The board is running phpBB2 and its hosted on a Linux Server ( Red Hat ) so all round its Linux friendly and open source.

I have watched with some bemusement the overall trend of the articles that are coming out on Linux in the enterprise, and not just the ones from ELF. What Linux needs, these articles intone, is more applications to be successful. If only there were more applications for Linux, pundits and corporate IT people have said, then it could not help but be more successful.

When you look at some of the installation documents for any of popular Linux distributions, you will see only few mentions of the term RAID, typically with passages such as \"you will need RAID only if you are a very professional systems administrator and you already know what are you doing.\" Even in the latest documentation of the latest Linux releases, this is likely the only thing you will see about RAID. This is one big reason why I think we should move past this barrier and demonstrate that RAID can be used by \"normal\" people.
