Description
|
Darwin is the core of Mac OS X. The Darwin kernel is based on FreeBSD and
Mach 3.0 technologies and provides protected memory and pre-emptive
multitasking. Darwin runs on PowerPC-based Macintosh computers and work is
underway to get Darwin running on Intel-based personal computers. Darwin
1.0 is the Mach 3.0-based core of Mac OS X. Preliminary support for Intel
is provided, allowing developers to begin bringing Darwin to the Intel
platform.

|
Development Status
|
Quite active. Apple is working hard here and is also giving back a lot of
code to the open source community. Support for the Intel platform is also
planned.
