History FreeOS.com

FreeOS.com was founded by Prakash Advani in November 1998. At that time, he was in the process of writing an article-"Getting Started with Linux" for Linux Gazette. At the end of the article, he mentioned "Prakash Advani is an Internet and Systems consultant based in Mumbai, India. Currently we are setting up a Web site dedicated on Free Operating Systems [www.FreeOS.com] including Linux. Any help would be greatly appreciated."

His article got a lot of readers and even today he gets emails from people requesting help. Among the people to respond promptly was Viren Jain of Netpedia.com who helped in putting up the initial web site.

Prakash Advani maintained the site single-handedly in his spare time for more than a year. Since then the site has come a long way and has grown many fold with mentions in several places. An important turning point took place in Feb 2000 when Apurva Shah offered to join him and get the necessary investments to scale up the site and setup the company. In March 2000 both Prakash Advani and Apurva Shah quit their respective jobs and started working on FreeOS.com in a full-time basis.

Today Prakash Advani is the Chief Executive Officer of the company and Apurva Shah is the Chief Technical Officer. They have taken up the task of revamping the entire site as well as updating it everyday. They have also expanded the company into providing solutions and expertise to help other companies adopt free operating systems.
